The In Between Time

This is the time to be slow,

Lie low to the wall

Until the bitter weather passes.

Try, as best you can, not to let

The wire brush of doubt

Scrape from your heart

All sense of yourself

And your hesitant light.

If you remain generous,

Time will come good;

And you will find your feet

Again on fresh pastures of promise,

Where the air will be kind

And blushed with beginning.

-John O’Donohue

Hello neighbors,

I wanted to share this poem with you- it was read aloud at my choir practice last night, and to me, feels very apropos of the time/space we are collectively in right now; not only that we are waiting for spring and "fresh pastures of promise," but that the world right now feels like it is throwing "bitter weather" at us, and I mean that metaphorically. I like the reminder to stay generous during challenging times.

On the farm we have been busy starting seeds, cleaning the pack room, painting the farmstand floor, building a new wash deck, and have even started harvesting over-wintered greens a bit. We're filling up our CSA memberships and reaching back out to vendors about farmstand deliveries and new products.

We have four core team members coming back this season (Mason, Carly, and Zoey have already started; Alyx returns in the summer), along with two new folks (Darius and Summer). I am excited to share that our crew will be taking on more of the communications this season- you'll still hear from me, but I want you to get to know our team better too- the folks who are actually growing your food! Stay tuned.

James and family have been sugaring up on the hill and the days (weeks?) ahead look promising for that- you're always welcome to visit and see sugaring done the old fashioned way with buckets and horses. The sugarhouse can be found on this map.

Our farmstand will be open on April 1st (no joke), and our Spring CSA starts on Monday! We have five shares left if you're hankering for fresh greens.

Until then,

Sara (and James, and the THF crew)

Hello friends, We just wrapped up one of those big milestone moments of the summer—garlic harvest. It was a two-day gallop consisting of sticky, stinging hands, a lot of happy chatter, and absolutely no vampires. Our whole crew was on deck, and we were lucky enough to be joined by a handful of former farm team members and other garlic enthusiasts who pitched in for a day or two as well. Garlic harvest days look like this: We pull each bulb from the soil, clip the roots, and peel back the...
