It is hard to believe September is nearing the end! Read our monthly newsletter for a humbling award announcement, new merchandize (and how to win some), a kale chip recipe, and a description of our Fall CSA shares.
Also... guess how much we (you!) raised for the Farmer Emergency Fund!?
Eric Rozendall Memorial Award
We're very humbled and honored to announce that we are the winners of the 2024 Eric Rozendall Memorial Award. The award is given to farmers who exemplify land stewardship, entrepreneurism, and community engagement, just like Eric did. It feels special to win this award, as Eric's farm (Rockville Market Farm) was one of only two that James worked on (apart from family farms) before starting Trillium Hill. James spent just one season on squash harvest there- picking and throwing butternut squash (just like Ruby and her friend did earlier this month!). We accepted the award at the Vermont Land Trust's annual meeting. Unfortunately/fortunately James was on a trip to Alaska and could not be there, but his mom, Anne, and Uncle, Howdy, joined us instead.
New Merch on the Way!
We just ordered new trucker hats, beanies, and long sleeve tees to add to the farmstand shelves! You can preorder hats now. Want a chance to win a shirt or hat of your choice? Leave us a google review! This silly thing helps our small business attract new customers, and we so appreciate your support. We'll pick a google review with a random number generator and contact the winner when the new swag arrives! (early/mid Oct.) Thanks in advance.
Kale Chips Recipe and Some Hot Kale Tips from Local Chef, Amanda Webb...
We offer two options for our fall vegetable shares, both start on November 8th. Pickups are on Fridays from 2-6pm at our farmstand.
Our Fall Greens CSA Share comes in one size and contains four-to-six items each week. The farmers will determine the items based on that week’s harvest. Most of the share will be greens grown in our hoophouses, with the occasional bunched vegetable crop like carrots, salad turnips, or scallions. The greens you can expect are: spinach, claytonia, kale, Asian greens, lettuce, arugula, and others.
Our Fall Medley CSA Share comes in one size and contains four-to-six farmer selected items each week, plus several pounds of storage crops to choose from. Most of the farmer selected items will be greens grown in our hoophouses, with the occasional bunched vegetable crop like carrots, salad turnips, or scallions. The greens you can expect are: spinach, claytonia, kale, Asian greens, lettuce, arugula, and others. Most of the storage crop display (from which you will select a portion of your share) will be from other local, certified organic farms. Those crops will include: beets, carrots, potatoes, parsnips, sweet potatoes, cabbages, onions, and more.
We hope you'll consider a CSA share with us this fall! If you're CSA-curious, this is a lower commitment way to try one out than our main summer season.
In good food, healthy soil, and lots of gratitude,
Sara, James, and the THF crew
PS. Thank you for your tips in the farmstand in July and August. We raised $2313.76 (rounded up to an even $2400) for the NOFA VT Farmer Emergency Fund to support farmers who experienced flooding in July. Amazing!
